Descrizione
Il brano si ispira all'omonimo cult-film inglese del 1973 e non è quindi da confondere, pur avendo lo stesso titolo, con quello di Bruce Dickinson del 1997 che proviene dalle sessioni dell'album Accident of Birth e che possiamo trovare nel The Best of Bruce Dickinson pubblicato dal cantante nel 2001.
La versione radiofonica della canzone, proveniente da un promo CD ormai diventato rarissimo, è diversa da quella dell'album soprattutto nei cori. La canzone, come tutti i brani d'apertura dei Maiden, ha riscosso ovunque notevole successo: in Italia è arrivata fino al terzo posto della classifica.[1]
La copertina del disco era stata creata inizialmente da Derek Riggs ma poi la band ha preferito la foto di gruppo realizzata da Mark Wilkinson ed i disegni di Riggs sono stati riutilizzati come cover nelle due edizioni limitate britanniche e nella versione in vinile.[2]

"The Wicker Man" is a song by English heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released on 8 May 2000 as the first single and opening track from their twelfth studio album, Brave New World (2000). It preceded the release of Brave New World by three weeks. It is also the first single by the band since 1989's single "Infinite Dreams" to feature "The Trooper"-era lineup with vocalist Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith returning to the band in 1999. It was co-written by Smith, Dickinson and Steve Harris. It was co-produced by Kevin Shirley and Harris. The title is inspired by the British cult film of the same name. The song should not be confused with "Wicker Man" from Dickinson's solo career, the lyrics of which are more closely themed around the film.
