Third/Sister Lovers ist das dritte Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Rockband Big Star. Auch wenn es sich im Grunde genommen um ein Solo-Album von Singer-Songwriter Alex Chilton handelt, gilt es als reguläres Album der Gruppe, die zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahmen jedoch nur noch aus Chilton und Schlagzeuger Jody Stephens bestand. Bereits 1975 fertiggestellt und testweise auf Vinyl gepresst, erschien das Album jedoch erst 1978 unter dem Titel 3rd bzw. Third auf dem Label PVC Records. 1985 wurde es unter dem Titel Sister Lovers neu aufgelegt. Nach der Neuveröffentlichung 1992 durch Rykodisc als Third/Sister Lovers ist das Album inzwischen unter dem zusammengesetzten Titel bekannt. Es wird auch als das „legendäre dritte Album“ von Big Star bezeichnet.[1][2] Produziert wurde es von Jim Dickinson in den Ardent Studios in Memphis.

Third (reissued in 1985 as Third/Sister Lovers[2]) is the third album by American rock band Big Star. Sessions started at Ardent Studios in September 1974. Though Ardent created promotional, white-label test pressings for the record in 1975, a combination of financial issues, the uncommercial sound of the record, and lack of interest from singer Alex Chilton and drummer Jody Stephens in continuing the project prevented the album from ever being properly finished or released at the time of its recording. It was eventually released in 1978 by PVC Records.
