Descrizione


Come il suo predecessore, Mr. Tambourine Man, l'album è incentrato sul genere folk rock e prosegue il mix di successo della band di armonie vocali e suoni cristallini di chitarra jingle-jangle.[12] Il singolo principale estratto dal disco e title track dell'album, Turn! Turn! Turn!, un brano composto da Pete Seeger con un testo tratto dai versetti contenuti in Ecclesiaste 3,1-8 (versione Bibbia di Re Giacomo), era stato in precedenza arrangiato in chiave folk pop da Jim McGuinn per la cantante folk Judy Collins,[13] ma l'arrangiamento da lui utilizzato con i Byrds ricorre al medesimo stile folk-rock dei precedenti singoli della band.[14]

L'album raggiunse la posizione numero 17 della classifica Billboard Top LPs negli Stati Uniti e la numero 11 nel Regno Unito.[15][16] Il singolo Turn! Turn! Turn!/She Don't Care About Time precedette l'album di due mesi e raggiunse la vetta della Billboard Hot 100.[17] L'altro singolo estratto dall'album, Set You Free This Time, ebbe meno successo e fallì l'entrata nella top 50 in America.[17]

In Turn! Turn! Turn!, aumentano i contributi compositivi di McGuinn e David Crosby riceve il primo credito autoriale su un disco dei Byrds, ma l'autore più prolifico del gruppo continua ad essere Gene Clark.[18] L'album include due cover di brani scritti da Bob Dylan: The Times They Are a-Changin' e Lay Down Your Weary Tune (all'epoca ancora inedito).[18]

Turn! Turn! Turn! ist das zweite Musikalbum der US-amerikanischen Folk-Rock-Band The Byrds. Es erschien am 12. Dezember 1965 auf dem Label Columbia Records. In den Vereinigten Staaten erreichte das Album Platz 17 der Pop-Charts, in Großbritannien Platz 11. Turn! Turn! Turn! bekam meist wohlwollende Kritiken, jedoch nicht das Lob, das seinem Vorgänger Mr. Tambourine Man zuteilwurde.

Turn! Turn! Turn! is the second studio album by American rock band the Byrds, released on December 6, 1965, by Columbia Records.[1] Like its predecessor, Mr. Tambourine Man, the album epitomized the folk rock genre and continued the band's successful mix of vocal harmony and jangly twelve-string Rickenbacker guitar.[2] The album's lead single and title track, "Turn! Turn! Turn!", which was adapted by Pete Seeger from text in the Book of Ecclesiastes, had previously been arranged in a chamber-folk style by the Byrd's lead guitarist Jim McGuinn for folk singer Judy Collins' third album,[3] but the arrangement he used for the Byrds' recording of the song utilizes the same folk-rock style as the band's previous hit singles.[4]
