L'album rappresenta la prima pubblicazione del gruppo senza il bassista storico Brendan "Cygnus" Brown, allontanato dal gruppo nel gennaio 2017 a causa di questioni personali;[4] le parti di basso sono state registrate pertanto da Robin Zielhorst.

Pur mantenendo sonorità tipicamente progressive ed extreme metal, Urn risulta essere il disco più accessibile dei Ne Obliviscaris, con un songwriting più diretto e riff di chitarra meno complessi rispetto al passato.[1][2][5]

Urn is the third studio album by Australian metal band Ne Obliviscaris, released on 27 October 2017 via Season of Mist.[6] It was released to Patreon contributors a few days earlier. It is the first album not to feature former bassist Brendan "Cygnus" Brown, who left the band in early 2017 due to his allegations of domestic violence.[7] Robin Zielhorst, former member of Cynic and Exivious, was recruited as their session bassist for the album.[8]
