Il brano è stato scritto dalla stessa Carey insieme a Ben Margulies ed è stato prodotto da Rhett Lawrence. La canzone raggiunse la vetta della classifica Billboard Hot 100. In seguito il singolo riuscì a arrivare al primo posto anche in Canada, Brasile, Australia, Nuova Zelanda e diversi paesi europei.
Alcune celebri interpreti, come Beyoncé e Mikaila hanno dichiarato di aver iniziato a produrre "virtuosismi" vocali, dopo aver sentito Vision of Love per la prima volta.[5]
Video musicale
Il videoclip, diretto da Bojan Bazelli, vede la Carey interpretare il brano su un palco dalla fioca illuminazione. Il video fu il secondo prodotto per il brano, dato che una prima versione era stata scartata. Secondo la rivista Rolling Stone, i due video prodotti per Vision of Love sono costati in totale 450,000 dollari.[6] La Columbia Records ha tuttavia smentito tale notizia.[6]

"Vision of Love" is the debut single by American singer-songwriter Mariah Carey. Written by Carey and Ben Margulies, the song was released as the lead single from Carey's eponymous debut album on May 15, 1990. After being featured on Carey's demo tape for Columbia, the song was re-recorded and produced by Rhett Lawrence and Narada Michael Walden. "Vision of Love" features a slow-dance theme tempo and backing vocals sung by Carey herself, and introduces her usage of the whistle register. The lyric of the song represents her past life filled with "alienation" and how she has dreamt of achieving her triumph over adversity up to that moment when it finally came to fruition as the "vision of love" that she has always believed in despite everything that she has had to deal with.- [it] Vision of Love
