Brano tra i più celebri del quintetto di Boston, si ispira a una scena di Frankenstein Junior in cui Igor dice «segua i miei passi» (in originale "walk this way")[5]; raggiunse il decimo posto di Billboard nel 1977.

Composto da Steven Tyler e Joe Perry, il brano fu riproposto nel 1986 dal gruppo rap Run DMC con la collaborazione degli stessi Aerosmith.[6] Questa versione raggiunse la quarta posizione di Billboard e permise agli Aerosmith di ritornare in auge. Inoltre questa collaborazione tra un gruppo hard rock ed uno hip hop pose le basi per il genere ibrido rap metal, che in seguito si sviluppò per poi affermarsi negli anni novanta.[7]

Nel 1999 MTV include Walk This Way tra i 100 più grandi video mai realizzati (esattamente al quinto posto). L'ormai famosissimo riff di Joe era venuto fuori per caso durante un soundcheck, con Joey che gli suonava sopra con la batteria^{[senza fonte]}.

Collaborazioni

Nel 1989 il gruppo musicale rock statunitense Bon Jovi cantò questa canzone con Steven Tyler e Joe Perry a Milton Keynes.

Il 12 marzo 2007 è stata pubblicata una cover in chiave pop del brano, incisa dalle Sugababes insieme alle Girls Aloud in onore del Red Nose Day, giornata organizzata dalla Comic Relief, organizzazione fondata dallo scrittore comico Richard Curtis nel 1985 per sensibilizzare le persone alla fame in Etiopia.

La canzone ha riscosso un ottimo successo in Regno Unito, dove ha raggiunto la prima posizione della classifica.

It peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1977, part of a string of successful hit singles for the band in the 1970s. In addition to being one of the songs that helped break Aerosmith into the mainstream in the 1970s, it also helped revitalize their career in the 1980s[4] when it was covered by hip hop group Run-D.M.C. (in collaboration with Aerosmith) on their 1986 album Raising Hell. This cover was a touchstone for the new musical subgenre of rap rock, or the melding of rock and hip hop.[4] It became an international hit and won both groups a Soul Train Music Award for Best Rap Single in 1987 Soul Train Music Awards. Both versions are in the Grammy Hall of Fame.[5]
