Il concept album affronta le tematiche della solitudine e della salute psichica, oltre alla cronaca delle condizioni che i giovani di colore devono affrontare nella vita sociale.[3]

È stato trainato dai singoli Clash, pubblicato il 9 luglio 2021 e System, pubblicato il 23 luglio.[4]


Sfondo


Nell'aprile 2021 Dave ha pubblicato un EP composto dai singoli Titanium e Mercury, quest'ultimo in collaborazione con Kamal. Il progetto è stato qualificato come "ciò che rimaneva fuori" dal suo secondo album ufficiale.[5] Due mesi dopo, ha annunciato su Twitter We're All Alone in This Together, insieme alla copertina e alla data di pubblicazione.[6]


Accoglienza


La critica musicale ha riservato all’album molti riconoscimenti. Su Metacritic ha ricevuto un punteggio medio di 92/100 sulla base di undici recensioni.[7] David Smyth, critico musicale dell'Evening Standard, recensendo il disco ha definito Dave «il miglior rapper britannico».[8] In una recensione su NME, Kyann Williams ha dichiarato che l'album è «sbalorditivo e all'altezza di quello precedente».[9]


Vendite


We're All Alone in This Together ha debuttato alla posizione numero 1 dell'Official Albums Chart, vendendo 74 000 copie nella prima settimana. Tale risultato ha reso l'album il più acquistato in Gran Bretagna nel 2021, superando Sour di Olivia Rodrigo (51 000copie).[10] I singoli Clash, Verdansk e In the Fire sono entrati nell'Official Singles Chart rispettivamente al 1º, 4º e 6º posto.[11]

The album succeeds the debut album Psychodrama, released in 2019, and includes guest appearances from Stormzy, James Blake, Wizkid, Snoh Aalegra, Boj, Fredo, Ghetts, Giggs and Meekz. We're All Alone in This Together was executive produced by Kyle Evans and Dave himself, with additional production from James Blake and Joe Reeves.
