Provenienti dall'affermazione mondiale giunta con Disintegration e con 4/5 di formazione nel gruppo da 7 anni, i Cure mettono a segno un altro successo sia di critica che di pubblico con Wish, che entra alla numero 1 in Gran Bretagna e alla numero 2 negli Stati Uniti d'America, arrivando rispettivamente a conquistare il Disco d'oro e il Disco di platino nei due paesi e diventando ad oggi l'album più venduto nella carriera della band.[senza fonte]

Wish is the ninth studio album by English rock band the Cure, released on 21 April 1992 by Fiction Records in the United Kingdom and Elektra Records in the United States.[3] Wish was the Cure's most commercially successful in the band's career, debuting at number one in the UK and number two in the US, where it sold more than 1.2 million copies.

Fue el último trabajo con el batería Boris Williams y el primero que contó oficialmente con Perry Bamonte en la guitarra. El teclista Roger O'Donnell, quien se había incorporado en 1987, abandonó el grupo en 1990 debido a problemas con algunos de los otros miembros y debido a ello no participó en su grabación.
