Il brano, scritto da Per Gessle[1], segna il ritorno sulle scene dopo tre anni di silenzio, ma soprattutto diventa il loro maggior successo dai tempi di Sleeping in My Car del 1994.

Ha ottenuto un ottimo riscontro di pubblico alla sua uscita[2][3].

Nel Regno Unito[4], il singolo è riuscito ad arrivare all'undicesima posizione, diventando il miglior risultato per i Roxette dai tempi di Almost Unreal.

Wish I Could Fly si è inoltre piazzato nella top 10 di Svezia e Finlandia, e nella top 20 in Austria, Svizzera e Norvegia.

Benché l'album Have a Nice Day non sia stato pubblicato negli Stati Uniti, la Edel Music ha distribuito il singolo di Wish I Could Fly con la riedizione del greatest hits Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus!, ed è riuscito a raggiungere la posizione 27 nella classifica U.S. Adult Contemporary Chart nei primi mesi del 2000.

Nei paesi in lingua spagnola, il brano è stato distribuito con il titolo Quisiera Volar per l'airplay radiofonico.

Wish I Could Fly ist ein Lied der schwedischen Band Roxette. Es wurde am 23. März 1999 als erste Single aus ihrem sechsten Studioalbum Have a Nice Day veröffentlicht. Das Lied wurde von Per Gessle geschrieben. Wish I Could Fly wurde zum Radiohit und somit das meistgespielte Lied in Europa im Jahr 1999. Eine spanische Version des Liedes mit dem Titel Quisiera Volar war auf der südamerikanischen Veröffentlichung des Albums enthalten.

"Wish I Could Fly" is a song by Swedish pop music duo Roxette, released on 1 February 1999 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, Have a Nice Day (1999). An orchestral pop ballad containing elements of electronica, the song was written as an experiment by Per Gessle, who was attempting to establish if a prominently-placed drum loop would fit alongside a large orchestra. The track became a sizable hit for the duo, peaking inside the top twenty of Billboard's European Hot 100 Singles, and was the most-played song on European radio of 1999. It would also become their final top 40 hit on the UK Singles Chart.
