Il brano
Scritto nel 1965 da Roky Erickson per gli Spades (che sarebbero poi evoluti nei 13th Floor Elevators), il brano viene considerato un classico del genere garage rock, anche grazie alla sua inclusione nella celebre antologia Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era del 1972.
La canzone arrivò alla posizione numero 55 della classifica Billboard Hot 100 negli Stati Uniti,[1] rivelandosi il maggior successo commerciale della band.
Inoltre, sempre nel '66 si classificò nella Top 50 di Cash Box e venne eseguita in tv dalla band nel corso della trasmissione American Bandstand,[2] dove il presentatore Dick Clark chiese a Tommy Hall chi fosse la "mente" del gruppo, ed egli rispose: «Beh, siamo tutti la mente!»[3]
Il brano è stato inserito nella colonna sonora del film Alta fedeltà (basato sul romanzo di Nick Hornby).

"You're Gonna Miss Me" is a song by the American psychedelic rock band the 13th Floor Elevators, written by Roky Erickson, and released as the group's debut single on Contact Records, on January 17, 1966. It was reissued nationally on International Artists, in May 1966. Musically inspired by traditional jug band and R&B music, combined with the group's own experimentation, "You're Gonna Miss Me", along with its Stacy Sutherland and Tommy Hall-penned B-side, "Tried to Hide", was influential in developing psychedelic rock and garage rock, and was one of the earliest rock compositions to utilize the electric jug.
