Debutta direttamente al numero 1 della classifica australiana, e al numero 8 di quella neo-zelandese, e vale al gruppo il record del "maggior numero di album consecutivi al primo posto in Australia, surclassando quello precedente dei Midnight Oil (4 album consecutivi al primo posto in classifica). Young Modern riceve 4 award agli ARIA music award (i premi della musica Australiana), compreso "album dell'anno" e "Singolo dell'anno" con "Straight Lines".
L'album vede di nuovo alla produzione Nick Launay e Daniel Johns, e ancora Van Dyke Parks si occupa della composizione degli arrangiamenti per le orchestrazioni di "If You Keep Losing Sleep" "All Across The World" e dello splendido trittico "Those Thieving Birds Pt.1/Strange Behaviour/Those Thieving Birds Pt.2" eseguiti dalla Czech Philharmonic Orchestra di Praga.
Per evitare pressioni esterne l'album è per la prima volta quasi interamente prodotto dal gruppo stesso. Il titolo "young Modern" deriva da un nick dato da Parks a Daniel durante la lavorazione di "Diorama".

Young Modern is the fifth and final studio album by Australian alternative rock band Silverchair, released on 31 March 2007 and co-produced by Daniel Johns and Nick Launay. The title comes from a nickname given to Daniel Johns by composer Van Dyke Parks.[3] The tracks "Straight Lines", "Reflections of a Sound", "If You Keep Losing Sleep" and "Mind Reader" were released as singles. Young Modern entered the Australian albums chart at No. 1 on 15 April 2007, their fifth consecutive album to do this, making Silverchair the first band to accomplish this feat in Australia.[1] The album was certified Triple Platinum by the ARIA,[1] peaked at No. 70 on the US Billboard 200 chart and opened at No. 8 on the New Zealand albums chart. Young Modern won six ARIA Awards in 2007, including Best Group, Best Rock Album, Single of the Year (for "Straight Lines") and Album of the Year. At the J Awards of 2007, the album was nominated for Australian Album of the Year.[4][es] Young Modern
