Il disco

Il titolo è composto dalle parole "youth" (gioventù) e da "quake" (tremito) che rimanda a "earthquake" (terremoto): quindi se "earthquake" è il tremito della terra, "youthquake" può intendersi come il tremito delle giovani generazioni che spingono per potersi affermare.

La copertina dell'album è uno scatto del celebre fotografo di moda Mario Testino.

Successo e classifiche

Unico album del gruppo ad essere entrato nella Top10 UK, globalmente ha venduto oltre 2 milioni di copie, risultando il più venduto della band. Ebbe notevole successo pure nel resto d'Europa e oltreoceano, soprattutto per merito del singolo You Spin Me Round (Like a Record), entrato nei primi dieci in molti paesi, ma anche degli altri singoli estratti, che raggiunsero posizioni di rilievo soprattutto nel Regno Unito[4]: In Too Deep 14°, Lover Come Back to Me 11° e My Heart Goes Bang 23°.

Youthquake is the second studio album by English pop band Dead or Alive, released on 3 May 1985 by Epic Records. The album was their commercial breakthrough in Europe and the United States, due to the lead single "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)", which was a UK number-one hit and a top 20 hit in the United States. Additional single releases from the album included "Lover Come Back to Me", "In Too Deep" and "My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me to the Doctor)". This was Dead or Alive's first collaboration with the Stock Aitken Waterman production team. Recording was marked by tension and clashes between band and producers, which engineer Phil Harding alleges almost escalated to violence.[4] Youthquake was re-released in the UK on compact disc in 1994, with the two bonus tracks that were previously included on the original CD[Notes 1] and cassette versions of the album.
