The Emptiness is the third studio album by American metalcore band Alesana. It was recorded in the fall of 2009 and was released on January 26, 2010 through Fearless Records.[1] The album is considered a rock opera due to its in-depth story.[2] Vocalists Shawn Milke and Dennis Lee have both stated that the idea of writing an album based upon their own authored story has been present with them since the time of the band's first release, Try This with Your Eyes Closed.

The Emptiness (en español: «El vacío») es el tercer álbum de estudio de la banda Alesana. Fue grabado desde el 8 de julio de 2009 hasta el 18 de agosto del mismo año, y publicado el 26 de enero de 2010.[3] Es también el primer álbum conceptual de la banda, basándose en «Annabel Lee», el último poema completo del escritor romántico Edgar Allan Poe; retratando una historia propia de cómo «El Artista» encuentra muerta a su «Annabel». El álbum adopta un modelo de obra teatral dramática con el añadido de cuatro interludios: «Curse of the Virgin Canvas», «A Lunatic's Lament», «The Thespian» y «To Be Scared By an Owl». Para la promoción del álbum, la banda contó con un extracto del video «The Thespian», el cual fue publicado el 16 de diciembre de 2009.
