Career

In 2013, the American band Xiu Xiu released an official remix of the song "Eshafot" (Russian: «Эшафот», lit. 'Scaffold').[1] Elektroforez performed twice at the 10th edition of Manifesta, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, held in Saint Petersburg.[1] In 2014, Afisha named the group's album Quo Vadis? as one of the most anticipated Russian albums.[2] In 2016, the song "Vse bylo tak" (Russian: «Всё было так», lit. 'Everything Was Thus') was used in the film Gorodskie ptichki (Russian: «Городские птички», lit. 'City Birds'), directed by Yuliya Belaya and featuring actors from the Gogol Center in the lead roles.[3] Since 2016, the group has been actively touring, playing over 100 concerts in Russia, Belarus,[4] the Baltic states, Germany, and Ukraine.[5] In 2017, the group won the Golden Gargoyle music award in the Electronic Project category.[6] In the same year, the group performed in Tallinn Music Week.[7][8]

In April 2018, Elektroforez performed in Minsk, Warsaw, Poznan, Berlin, and Kaliningrad as part of a showcase of Russian bands including Kazuskoma, Spasibo, Glintshake, and Shortparis.[9] During the tour, the group caught the attention of a number of Polish promoters.[10] The group also performed at Stereoleto Festival.[11]

At the end of 2018, the group released the music video for the song "Ikea" (Russian: Икея).

In 2019, Elektroforez was featured in The Quietus's series on the Russian alternative music scene.[12]

«Электрофорез» — российская синти-поп группа, основанная в 2012 году Иваном Курочкиным (до 2014 года носил псевдоним Святозар Черноусов)[1] и Виталием Талызиным (ранее носил псевдоним Топоров)[2] в городе Санкт-Петербурге. Группа выпустила три полноформатных альбома, шесть мини-альбомов и девять синглов. «Электрофорез» является одним из наиболее успешных проектов новой волны русской несвободной музыки. Популярность коллективу обеспечивает декадентская лирика, особенное внимание к тёмной и мрачной эстетике, одновременно сдержанный и мощный синтезаторный звук, а также интересный вокал Ивана Курочкина[3]. Группа начинала с экспериментальной лоу-фай электроники, впоследствии придя к мрачному звучанию синти-попа и дарквейва.
