Su mezcla va desde el punk, hasta el blues, country, rockabilly y el post-punk clásico de los años 70.

The Gun Club es considerado también como uno de los grupos más aclamados de culto de su época junto a grandes grupos del punk como: The Damned, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Ramones, entre otros.

Ganaron éxito gracias a los sencillos: "Sex Beat", "Breaking Hands", "The Great Divide", "Pastoral, Hide & Seek (The Lost Song)", "Cry to Me" y "Walkin' with the Beast".

The Gun Club war eine US-amerikanische Rockband, die 1980 von dem Blondie-Fan Jeffrey Lee Pierce (Gesang und Gitarre) und Brian Tristan alias Kid Congo Powers (Gitarre) zuerst unter dem Namen Creeping Ritual in Los Angeles gegründet wurde. Pierce rief die Gruppe ursprünglich nur ins Leben, um seinem Freund Powers die Möglichkeit zu geben, in einer Band zu spielen. Erweitert wurde die Band schließlich durch Don Snowden (Bass) sowie Terry Graham (Schlagzeug). Snowden wurde jedoch früh von Rob Ritter abgelöst. Im Laufe der Jahre wechselte die Besetzung häufig, wobei Pierce das einzige konstante Mitglied blieb. Sein Tod im Jahr 1996 bedeutete das Ende der Band.

Считается представительницей жанров дэт-рок (англ. deathrock) и кантри-панк (англ. cowpunk). Основана Джеффри Ли Пирсом (27 июня 1958 — 31 марта 1996) и Кидом Конго Пауэросом (англ. Kid Congo Powers) в 1980 году. Со смертью Пирса в 1996 группа распалась.
