Booker T. & the M.G.'s es una agrupación instrumental de música soul, rock y R&B, muy popular entre los años 1960 y 1970. Se les asocia habitualmente con la compañía discográfica Stax Records, y se les considera parte del subgénero denominado "Memphis soul". Fue uno de los primeros grupos de la música popular integrados por músicos de diferentes razas. A la banda se la conoce sobre todo por su éxito musical de 1962, la pieza de rock instrumental «Green Onions».

Los integrantes originales del grupo fueron Booker T. Jones (órgano y piano), Steve Cropper (guitarra), Lewie Steinberg (bajo) y Al Jackson, Jr (batería). Donald "Duck" Dunn sustituyó a Steinberg al bajo en 1965 y desde entonces ha permanecido en la banda. Después de 1975, al morir Al Jackson Jr., los bateristas Willie Hall, Anton Fig, Steve Jordan y Steve Potts fueron incorporándose al grupo en diversas etapas.[1]

En 1992, Booker T. & The M.G.'s fueron incluidos en el Salón de la Fama del Rock, en 2004 la revista Rolling Stone situó al grupo en el lugar número 93 de su lista 100 Greatest Artists of All Time[2] y en 2007 recibieron el Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Booker T. & the M.G.'s were an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was influential in shaping the sound of Southern soul and Memphis soul. The original members of the group were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). In the 1960s, as members of the Mar-Keys, the rotating slate of musicians that served as the house band of Stax Records, they played on hundreds of recordings by artists including Wilson Pickett, Otis Redding, Bill Withers, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas, Johnnie Taylor and Albert King. They also released instrumental records under their own name, including the 1962 hit single "Green Onions". As originators of the unique Stax sound, the group was one of the most prolific, respected, and imitated of its era. By the mid-1960s, bands on both sides of the Atlantic were trying to sound like Booker T. & the M.G.'s.[1][2]
