John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers fue una banda de blues rock inglés liderada por el cantante, compositor y multiinstrumentista John Mayall. Historia

The Bluesbreakers se formaron en enero de 1963 consolidándose como una banda en constante evolución con más de 100 combinaciones de músicos que han actuado bajo dicho nombre. Eric Clapton entró en 1965, unos pocos meses después de que estos sacaran su primer álbum. Clapton llevó las influencias del blues al frente del grupo ya que él había dejado The Yardbirds para tocar dicho estilo.

El grupo perdió su contrato ese año con Decca pero volvieron en 1966. El álbum Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton (también conocido como The Beano Album ya que Clapton aparecía en la portada leyendo una copia de dicho comic) se editó posteriormente el mismo año; alcanzando el Top Ten en el Reino Unido.

Eric Clapton y Jack Bruce dejaron el grupo ese año para formar Cream. Peter Green sustituyó a Clapton en A Hard Road, tras dicho disco abandonó la banda para formar Fleetwood Mac. Finalmente, en 1969, fue reemplazado por Mick Taylor que más tarde formaría parte de The Rolling Stones.

John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers are an English blues rock band led by singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist John Mayall. While never producing a hit of their own, the band has been influential as an incubator for British rock and blues musicians. Many of the best known bands to come out of Britain in the 1960s and 1970s had members that came through the Bluesbreakers at one time, forming the foundation of British blues music that is still played heavily on classic rock radio. Among those with a tenure in the Bluesbreakers are Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce (both later of Cream), Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie (the three of whom would form Fleetwood Mac), Mick Taylor (the Rolling Stones), Aynsley Dunbar (Frank Zappa, The Mothers of Invention), Jon Hiseman, Dick Heckstall-Smith and Tony Reeves (these three would form Colosseum), and numerous others.
