The Plastic People of the Universe (PPU) fue una banda de rock formada en Praga (República Checa) en 1968.[1] Fueron los principales representantes del rock checo durante la Primavera de Praga. El grupo fue un ejemplo de avant garde durante el régimen de Alexander Dubček y su anticonformismo les ocasionó conflictos que incluyeron el arresto de varios de sus miembros en 1976. El grupo continúa actuando a pesar de la muerte de su fundador, principal compositor y bajista, Milan «Mejla» Hlavsa en 2001.[2] Muchas de sus letras fueron escritas por el poeta Egon Bondy.[3]

The Plastic People of the Universe (PPU) is a Czech rock band from Prague. They are considered to be the foremost representatives of Prague's underground culture (1968–1989), which went against the grain of Czechoslovakia's Communist regime. Due to their non-conformism, members of the band often suffered serious repercussions, including arrests and prosecution. The group continues to perform, despite the death of its founder, main composer, and bassist, Milan "Mejla" Hlavsa, in 2001.
