Broadcast est un groupe de rock électronique formé à Birmingham en 1995.

Biographie

Le groupe est composé du couple formé par Trish Keenan et James Cargill, respectivement au chant et à la guitare basse. Ils sont à l'origine accompagnés du claviériste Roj Stevens et du guitariste Tim Felton. De nombreux batteurs se succéderont au cours de l'histoire du groupe. À la suite de différentes défections seuls Keenan et Cargill composent le groupe[1]

Le groupe publie ses premiers singles en 1996. L'utilisation d'un de leur titre (The Book Lovers) dans la B.O. d'Austin Powers[2] leur vaut l'intérêt du label Warp qui signe le groupe et publie leurs premiers enregistrements sous le titre Work Non Work en 1997.

Broadcast a depuis publié trois albums studios ainsi que de nombreux singles et EP.

La chanteuse Trish Keenan meurt le 14 janvier 2011 des suites d'une pneumonie[3] après avoir contracté le virus H1N1 en Australie[4]. Depuis le groupe n'est plus composé que de James Cargill.

En 2012 la bande originale du film Berberian Sound Studio, réalisé par Peter Strickland, est signée par le groupe[5]. Le disque rassemblant ces différentes compositions réalisées avant le décès de Trish Keenan est publié le 7 janvier 2013[6].

Broadcast ist eine britische Elektronikband aus Birmingham, England, die bei dem hauptsächlich mit elektronischer Musik arbeitenden Label Warp Records unter Vertrag steht. Broadcast bestand ursprünglich aus dem Kerntrio Trish Keenan (Gesang), James Cargill (Bass) und Tim Felton (Gitarre). An den Drums saßen unter anderem Phil Jenkins, Neil Bullock und Stephen Perkins.

Their musical style blended elements of 1960s psychedelia with early electronic music and samples from esoteric sources; it earned the band a cult following.[1]

Broadcast es un grupo de música electrónica, originarios de Kings Heath en Birmingham, Inglaterra. Los miembros originales fueron Trish Keenan (cantante), Roj Stevens (teclado), Tim Felton (guitarra), James Cargill (bajo), y varios baterías que pasaron por la formación, como Keith York, Phil Jenkins, Jeremy Barnes, Steve Perkins y Neil Bullock. En el año 2005, la banda estuvo compuesta por Keenan y Cagill, después de que Felton dejara el grupo para formar un nuevo proyecto, Seeland, con Billy Bainbridge, quien formó el grupo Plone, también de Birmingham, en el sello Warp. El estilo de la banda es una mezcla de sonidos electrónicos e influencias vocales de los años 60 adoptadas por Keenan. Se encuentra también muy influenciado por la banda psicodélica americana de la década de los 60 The United States of America, y utiliza muchos de los mismos efectos electrónicos. También guarda semejanza con la banda Stereolab. Sin embargo, y a pesar de estar emparentado con estas bandas, su sonido se muestra más oscuro e inclasificable, con samples deformados y distorsiones analógicas que le otorgan un sonido entre retro-futurista y de ciencia-ficción.
