Embrace est un groupe de post-hardcore américain, originaire de l'État de Washington. Il est actif entre l'été 1985 et le printemps 1986[6].

Biographie

Avec Rites of Spring, et Beefeater, le groupe fait partie du mouvement Revolution Summer[7] et est l'un des premiers groupes catégorisés dans le genre hardcore émotionnel[6]^,[8] même si les membres nient en faire partie[8]^,[9]^,[10]. Le groupe ocmpte en son sien le chanteur Ian MacKaye du défunt groupe hardcore Minor Threat et trois anciens membres du groupe de son frère Alec, The Faith : le guitariste Michael Hampton, le batteur Ivor Hanson, et le bassiste Chris Bald[6]^,[9]. Hampton et Hanson jouaient ensemble au sein de S.O.A.[11]. Le groupe joue son premier concert le 28 juillet 1985 au Food for Thought, un ancien restaurant situé au Dupont Circle à Washington, D.C.[12]^,[13]^,[14]. Leur neuvième et dernier concert s'effectue au 9:30 Club en mars 1986[15]^,[16]^,[17]. Leur seul album est l'éponyme Embrace publié à titre posthume en 1987[6], qui s'inspire de l'EP des Faith, Subject to Change[9]^,[18].

Après la séparation d'Embrace[16], MacKaye et l'ancien batteur de Minor Threat, Jeff Nelson, tentent de s'imposer en Angleterre avec Egg Hunt[19], mais ce projet ne dépasse pas le stade des répétitions[20]^,[21]^,[22].

Embrace were a short-lived hardcore punk band from Washington, D.C., which lasted from the summer of 1985 to the spring of 1986.[6] Along with Rites of Spring, and Beefeater, it was one of the mainstay acts of the 1985 Revolution Summer movement,[7] and was one of the first bands to be dubbed in the press as emotional hardcore,[6][8] though the members had rejected the term since its creation.[8][9][10] The band included lead vocalist Ian MacKaye of the defunct hardcore punk act Minor Threat and three former members of his brother Alec's band, the Faith: guitarist Michael Hampton, drummer Ivor Hanson, and bassist Chris Bald.[6][9] Hampton and Hanson had also previously played together in S.O.A.[11] The band played their first show on July 28, 1985 at Food for Thought, a former restaurant and music venue located on Washington, D.C.'s Dupont Circle;[12][13][14] their ninth and final show was held at the 9:30 Club in March 1986.[15][16][17] The only recording released by the quartet was their posthumous 1987 self-titled album, Embrace,[6] being influenced by the Faith EP Subject to Change.[9][18]
