Le groupe, formé en 2009, est constitué de Donovan Melero (batterie et chant), Shane Gann (guitare), Aric Garcia (guitare rythmique) et John Stirrat (basse).
Histoire
2009–2013 : Débuts, POW! Right In the Kisser et Elephantitis
Originaires de Chico, en Californie, les membres du groupe Donovan Melero, Shan Gann, Aric Garcia et John Stirrat ont formé Hail the Sun pendant qu'ils étaient à l'université[1]. Leur premier album studio POW! Right In the Kisser, écrit et enregistré en 3 mois, est sorti le [2].
Le groupe a publié l'EP Elephantitis le [3]. La création de cet EP a été influencé par le style d'autres groupes tels que The Fall of Troy ou Hot Cross.
2014–2017 : Wake, Culture Scars et l'EP Secret Wars
Après 3 ans de tournée, Hail the Sun rencontre le groupe de post-hardcore Dance Gavin Dance et ils signent avec Blue Swan Records[4], label indépendant de Will Swan. Avec ce label, Hail the Sun publie l'abum Wake.
Le , il est révélé que le groupe ne collabore plus avec Blue Swan Records et a signé chez Equal Vision Records, en publiant une première version de leur musique Paranoia[5]. Le , le groupe publie la version officiel du single Paranoia[6] et il est annoncé le que leur 3e album studio Culture Scars sortira le .

Formed in 2009. the band currently consists of lead vocalist and drummer Donovan Melero, lead guitarist Shane Gann, rhythm guitarist Aric Garcia, and bass guitarist John Stirrat. They are known for their eclectic progressive rock and math rock style, along with traditional elements of screamo and post-hardcore. They released their debut studio album, POW! Right In the Kisser! (2010), and EP, Elephantitis (2012), independently before signing to Blue Swan Records the following year. The group released their sophomore studio album, Wake, in 2014. In 2016, the band departed from the label, signing to Equal Vision Records and released their third studio album, Culture Scars on June 17, 2016, which charted at number 38 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart.[1]- [fr] Hail the Sun
