Mike + The Mechanics, également stylisé M1ke + The Mechan1c5, est un groupe de pop rock britannique, originaire de Londres.

Biographie

Le groupe est formé en 1985 comme un projet à part de Mike Rutherford, un membre fondateur de Genesis. Le groupe est reconnu pour ses succès Another Cup of Coffee, Silent Running, All I Need is a Miracle, Taken In, The Living Years, Word of Mouth et Over My Shoulder.

Le groupe comprend au départ Paul Carrack, Paul Young (celui de Sad Café, à ne pas confondre avec le chanteur solo Paul Young qui a enregistré avec Zucchero), le claviériste Adrian Lee et le batteur et percussionniste Peter Van Hooke, ancien musicien de Van Morrison.

Après la mort de Paul Young des suites d'une crise cardiaque le 15 juillet 2000, le groupe se reforme en 2004 sous le nom de Mike + the Mechanics + Paul Carrack. L'album Rewired est suivi d'une tournée en première partie de Phil Collins.

Mike + The Mechanics revient en 2011 avec deux nouveaux chanteurs, Andrew Roachford et Tim Howar, avec lesquels ils enregistrent l'album The Road, sorti en avril 2011, suivi en 2017 par Let Me Fly et en 2019 par Out of the Blue.
