Monsters of Folk est un supergroupe de folk rock américain, composé de Jim James de My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst et Mike Mogis du groupe Bright Eyes, et M. Ward, artiste solo et faisant partie du duo She & Him[1].

Biographie

Le groupe est formé en 2004 quand les membres étaient en tournée avec leurs groupes respectifs ou en solo. Après leurs concerts, ils se mettent à travailler ensemble sur de nouveaux morceaux. À cause des emplois du temps des membres, Monsters of Folk ne publie pas son premier album avant 2009, le 22 septembre, au label Rough Trade[2]. Il débute 143^e du Billboard 200 et atteint plus la 15^e place[3]. Il atteint la troisième place des Top Independent Albums, la 8^e des Top Rock Albums, la 7^e des Top Digital Albums, et la 6^e des Top Alternative Albums[4].

Leur morceau Baby Boomer est sélectionné pour le Pick of the Week pour Starbucks iTunes le 27 octobre 2009[5]^,[6]. Les 23 et 24 octobre 2009, ils jouent à la 23^e édition du Bridge School Benefit de Neil Young organisé à Mountain View, en Californie au Shoreline Amphitheater. En concert, Will Johnson s'occupe de la batterie. M. Ward annonce d'autres choses à venir après la sortie du premier album des Monsters of Folk[7].

Monsters of Folk was an American supergroup, consisting of Jim James from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes, Will Johnson from Centro-matic and M. Ward, solo artist and half of She & Him.[1] The band was formed in 2004 when the members were on tour with their respective bands and solo projects. After playing together both on-stage and backstage, they started working together on various material. Due to the members' main projects, Monsters of Folk did not finish their first album until 2009, and it was released on September 22 on Rough Trade.[2] It debuted at No. 143 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at 15.[3] It also reached No. 3 on Top Independent Albums, No. 8 on Top Rock Albums, No. 7 on Top Digital Albums, and No. 6 on Top Alternative Albums.[4]
