Smokie, à l'origine orthographié Smokey, est un groupe de rock britannique originaire de Bradford, dans le Yorkshire, en Angleterre.

Biographie

À l'origine appelé The Yen, puis The Sphynx, et plus tard Essence, le groupe est formé en 1965.

En 1989 sort Boulevard of Broken Dreams (sept semaines classé premier des charts norvégiens[1] ; tous les morceaux sont produits par Simon Humphrey, sauf pour Young Love, qui est produit par Dieter Bohlen), Whose are these Boots? (1990, premier en Norvège)[2], Chasing Shadows (1992) et Celebration (1994), qui comprennent d'anciens succès réarrangés par un orcheestre. La réédition de Living Next Door to Alice (Who the F**k is Alice) atteint la troisième place des charts britanniques[3].

En 2004, Smokie enregistre un album, On the Wire, comprenant onze morceaux écrits par eux-mêmes. En 2006, le groupe sort l'album From the Heart.

En 2010, Smokie atteint les charts avec l'album Take a Minute. Publié au Danemark en août la même année, l y atteint la troisième place des charts[4]. Sa sortie dans le reste de la Scandinavie et en Allemagne prend place en octobre, avec le single Sally's Song (The Legacy Goes On).

Smokie (originally spelt Smokey) are an English rock band from Bradford, Yorkshire. The band found success at home and abroad after teaming up with Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn. They have had a number of line-up changes and were still actively touring in 2018. Their most popular hit single, "Living Next Door to Alice", peaked at No. 3 on the UK Singles Chart[2] and, in March 1977, reached No. 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, as well as going to No. 1 on the Australian singles chart.[3] Other hit singles include "If You Think You Know How to Love Me", "Oh Carol", "Lay Back in the Arms of Someone", and "I'll Meet You at Midnight".

Смоки[1], первоначально Smokey, созвучно со словом англ. smoke — дымный, копчёный, прокуренный) — британская рок-группа из Брадфорда, созданная школьными друзьями Крисом Норманом, Аланом Силсоном и Роном Келли в 1963 году. Наибольшую известность получила во второй половине 1970-х годов в Европе. 11 синглов и 5 альбомов группы входили в топ-20 европейских стран в 1975―1979 года. Состав группы неоднократно менялся и только Терри Аттли оставался единственным, кто участвовал во всех составах.
