Warzone est un groupe de punk hardcore américain, originaire de New-York. Warzone est l'un des fers de lance du milieu NYHC (New York Hardcore) du Lower East Side avec Agnostic Front ou encore Cro-Mags dans les années 1980. Son leader Raybeez (qui fut batteur d'Agnostic Front au début de la formation) disparu le 11 septembre 1997 à l'âge de 36 ans d'une pneumonie. Le groupe gagna sa notoriété avec une suite de nombreux disques indépendants et d'innombrables performances scéniques.

Biographie

Le chanteur Raymond « Raybeez » Barbieri est le seul membre consistant du groupe pendant ses années d'existence. Il rejoint le groupe en 1983 comme batteur (la même année durant laquelle il joue dans l'EP d'Agnostic Front, United Blood) puis au chant[1], après déjà deux ans d'existence de Warzone[2]. Raybeez restera chanteur de Warzone jusqu'à son décès d'une pneumonie le 11 septembre 1997[3]. Vétéran de la US Navy[4], il se faisait soigner à la Veterans Health Administration jusqu'à ce que sa maladie l'emporte à l'âge de 35 ans[5].

Warzone (formerly known as Rat Poison)[1] was an American hardcore punk band formed on the Lower East Side of Manhattan in 1983. The band helped develop the New York hardcore sound, the hardcore skinhead style and the youth crew subgenre. During the band's 14 years and many line-up changes, their primarily hardcore sound was flavored by influences ranging from Oi! (they toured several times with The Business and played a cover of their song "The Real Enemy") to traditional punk rock to heavy metal (on their self-titled LP). Their fan base was diverse, with their concerts usually attended by skinheads, straight edge teens, metalheads, and punks of all ages. Vice has written that "one could argue that [Warzone] spearheaded the second and larger wave of hardcore bands that erupted in the NY scene in 1986-1987".[2]

Warzone — нью-йоркская хардкор-группа. Собрались в 1983 году и играли до 1997 года. Несмотря на огромный вклад всех музыкантов, когда-либо игравших в этой банде, основой группы был Рэй «Рэйбиз» Бэрбэри (Raymond «Raybeez» James Barbieri). Группа играла жесткий, быстрый хардкор. Тексты их песен имели острую социальную направленность: неприятие любых форм дискриминации (в том числе расизма и нацизма), осуждение продажного правосудия, отрицание политических разногласий среди молодежи. При этом Raybeeze разделял патриотические взгляды, посвятив немалую часть своей жизни службе в ВМС США.
