Gli Alchemist sono un gruppo avant-garde metal[1]/progressive metal[1][2] proveniente da Canberra, Australia. Si tratta di una band dalle sonorità molto particolari, che ha subito una sostanziale evoluzione durante la sua vita artistica, passando dalle sonorità marcatamente avant-garde metal dei primi album come Jar Of Kingdom e Spiritech a quelle più progressive degli ultimi dischi, come Organasm e Austral Alien.

Storia

Il gruppo venne formato nel 1987 da Adam Agius (voce/chitarra), a cui si aggiunsero in seguito Roy Torkington (chitarra), Rodney Holder (batteria/percussioni) e John Bray (basso). Dal 2003 gli Alchemist hanno in formazione (seppur non ufficialmente) Nick Wall, che provvede ai sample negli spettacoli dal vivo[3].

La band è anche responsabile dell'organizzazione del più importante festival metal d'Australia: il Metal for the Brain, tenuto ogni anno a Canberra.

Alchemist war eine australische Metal-Band. Die stilistische Entwicklung vollzog sich von Death Metal hin zu Progressive Metal, als Vorbild gilt die kanadische Metal-Band Voivod. Alchemist war nach Auflösung von Armoured Angel maßgeblich an der Veranstaltung des Festivals Metal for the Brain beteiligt.

Alchemist was an Australian progressive metal band from Canberra whose style combined death metal, progressive rock, psychedelic, Eastern, Aboriginal and electronic influences.[1][2][3] The band formed in 1987 and released six studio albums, an EP and a compilation album. Work began on a new EP in 2010 but the band went on an indefinite hiatus and then split up. They are the only group to appear at every Metal for the Brain festival, an event they ran and organised from 1996. Alchemist also played at the Big Day Out and toured Europe several times.
