Storia

Nati sull'onda della new wave il loro stile iniziale si rifaceva a sonorità e melodie di genere dark rock, anche se atipiche, in cui i testi di Simon Huw Jones venivano recitati su trame tese e livide di chitarra basso e batteria.

Il loro primo disco, omonimo, pubblicato nel 1983, fu prodotto da uno dei membri fondatori dei The Cure, Laurence Tolhurst.

Dopo altri dischi dal stesso stile, (Virus Meadow del 1986, The Millpond Years del 1988, Farewell to the Shade (1989), nel album del 1992 Green is the Sea il gruppo introdusse elementi lounge, ulteriormente ampliati in The Klaxon dell'anno successivo e che insieme a introduzioni di blues d'atmosfera caratterizzarono anche i successivi Angelfish (1996) e Silver Soul (1999).

Nel 2003 pubblicarono Further for the Truth che recupera e amalgama nel loro stile le vecchie sonorità oscure. Nel 2005 venne pubblicata una raccolta di successi relativa agli anni 1980-2005.

Il loro decimo album intitolato (listen for) the Rag and Bone Man uscì nel novembre 2007 anticipato da un mini tour europeo.
