Il gruppo è anche noto per aver fatto conoscere al grande pubblico Janis Joplin[2].
Dopo essersi sciolto nel 1972, si è riunito nel 1987 ed è tuttora attivo.
Storia
Il loro album del 1968, Cheap Thrills edito per Columbia Records, è considerato una delle opere principali del suono psichedelico di San Francisco, raggiunse il primo posto della classifica di Billboard ed è stato inserito alla posizione 338 dei 500 migliori album di tutti i tempi stilata dalla rivista Rolling Stone[3].

After some initial personnel changes, the band became well known with the lineup of vocalist Janis Joplin, guitarists Sam Andrew and James Gurley, bassist Peter Albin, and drummer Dave Getz. Their second album Cheap Thrills, released in 1968, is considered one of the masterpieces of the psychedelic sound of San Francisco; it reached number one on the Billboard charts, and was ranked number 338 in Rolling Stone's the 500 greatest albums of all time.
