I Gang Green sono un gruppo hardcore punk[1] statunitense formati a Braintree[2] nel 1981. Sono considerati tra i maggiori esponenti della scena hardcore di Boston,[3] sebbene fossero notevolmente diversi dal resto della cosiddetta Boston Crew, caratterizzata da forte impegno politico e da una visione straight edge, all'opposto della loro, appassionati di heavy metal, conservatori, amanti della birra e con dipendenze da cocaina.[3]

Apparsi per la prima volta nelle compilation This Is Boston, Not L.A. (1981) e Unsafe at Any Speed (1982), si sciolsero nel 1983 dopo la pubblicazione del loro EP Sold Out, prima pubblicazione per la Taang.[3] Riuniti con una nuova formazione nel 1985, pubblicarono quello che è considerato il loro album cardine,[3] Alcohol, disco "anti-straight edge" in stile AC/DC che ha avuto influenze su gruppi come Metallica e The Meatmen.[4]

Sciolti nuovamente nel 1998, la band si riforma nel 2000 ed è tuttora attiva per una serie di concerti.

Gang Green is an American punk rock band originally from Braintree, Massachusetts. Chris Doherty (guitar), Bill Manley (bass) and Mike Dean (drums) started the band in 1980 and broke up in 1983. Doherty reformed Gang Green the following year, and the band experienced numerous lineup changes until its dissolution for the second time in 1992. Doherty has been the band's only constant member and has kept Gang Green active from 2005 onwards. The band was influential in the formation of the East Coast hardcore punk scene, and went on to become one of the forerunners of crossover thrash and speed metal in the late 1980s.[1]
