Storia del gruppo

Il gruppo può essere considerato come progetto del musicista Frankie Beverly in quanto è cantautore, produttore discografico, arrangiatore, cantante, chitarrista e tastierista della band. Dopo aver registrato alcuni brani di poco successo, la band firmò un contratto discografico con la Capitol Records (1976) e pubblicò nel 1977 il suo primo vero album intitolato "Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly" e il successo fu immediato con i brani "Happy Feelins","While I'm Alone" e "Lady of Magic" che consentirono ai Maze di vincere il loro primo disco d'oro.Hanno avuto successo anche con gli album Golden Time of Day (1978), Inspiration (1979) e Joy and Pain (1980). Nel 1980 registrarono anche il loro primo album live:Live in New Orleans,(tre quarti del quale registrati fra il 14-15 novembre 1980 al Saenger Theatre)da cui vennero estratti i singoli "Running Away", "Before I Let Go" e "We Need Love To Live".A quel punto la band si era creata una reputazione anche nel Regno Unito.

Nel 1989 hanno firmato un contratto con la Warner Bros. e pubblicato l'album Silky Soul (1989) e Back to Basics (1993).I due album hanno ottenuto lo status di disco d'oro.

Nel marzo 1985 hanno pubblicato l'album Can't Stop the Love che conteneva la prima hit R & B del gruppo ovvero "Back In Stride".

Nel mese di ottobre 2004, "Twilight" è apparso nel videogioco, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, nella stazione radio funk Bounce FM.

I Maze sono continuamente in tour in tutta europa così come negli Stati Uniti.

Maze, also known as Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly and Frankie Beverly & Maze, is an American soul band founded by Frankie Beverly in Philadelphia in 1970.[1] Under its original name Raw Soul, the band relocated to San Francisco and was introduced to Marvin Gaye. Gaye took the group on the road with him as one of his opening acts, and in 1976, he suggested that they change their name from Raw Soul.[1] Maze released 9 Gold albums from 1977 to 1993.[2] Their well-known songs include "Happy Feelin's", "While I'm Alone", "Golden Time of Day", “Southern Girl”, "The Look in Your Eyes", "Joy and Pain", "Before I Let Go", "We Are One", "Back in Stride", "Can't Get Over You" and "The Morning After".[3] The band has maintained a large and devoted following.[1]
