La band si è formata per decisione di Ben Hudson, unico compositore e cantante del gruppo. Li contraddistingue uno stile influenzato da diversi generi musicali come Rhythm and blues, Jazz, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, beat ecc… ed una particolare cura dei testi.

Il loro primo album “A Tale of two Cities” , pubblicato con il nome Mr Hudson & the Library, prende il nome da un classico della letteratura di Charles Dickens col medesimo titolo scritto nel 1859. Dell'album il cantante ha detto: “sono cresciuto a Birmingham e vivo a Londra. Nutro profondo affetto per entrambe le città”, da cui la nascita del titolo.

I Mr Hudson hanno debuttato in televisione nella trasmissione della rete BBC "Later... with Jools Holland" nel dicembre del 2006.

Nel 2007 la band ha fatto da gruppo di spalla per Amy Winehouse, insieme a Paolo Nutini, Groove Armada e Mika.

Nel 2010 la band ha interpretato insieme al rapper Jay-Z la canzone Young Forever.

Benjamin Hudson McIldowie (born 26 June 1979), better known by his stage name Mr Hudson, is an English musician from Birmingham, England. First rising to prominence in 2006 with Mr Hudson and the Library, Hudson later embarked on a solo career in 2008, when he signed a record deal with American musician Kanye West's GOOD Music label. He was subsequently featured as a prominent composer on West's 808s & Heartbreak (2008). Hudson later appeared on American rapper Jay-Z’s top 10 single "Young Forever", from The Blueprint 3 (2009). He would find more solo success on his 2009 album, Straight No Chaser, which spawned the hit single "Supernova".[1]
