Holy Intellect lancia il gruppo al successo: nel 1998 è inserito tra i cento migliori album del genere dalla rivista specializzata The Source.[2] I due album successivi, Pure Poverty e Black Business riescono a entrare nella Billboard 200, mentre The New World Order del 1996 entra solo nella chart dedicata ai lavori hip hop. Il gruppo smette di lavorare nel 2001. Nel 2006 Cha-Ching Records pubblica una compilation del gruppo intitolata Rare & Unreleased.

Il 26 maggio 2014 Father Shaheed muore in un incidente motociclistico.[3]

Poor Righteous Teachers was a hip hop group from Trenton, New Jersey, founded in 1989.[1] Often referred to as PRT by its fans, Poor Righteous Teachers was known as a socially and politically conscious hip hop group, with musical content inspired by the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Wise Intelligent, as the lead MC, was the most visible and well known member of the group. Culture Freedom provided vocals and production, and Father Shaheed served as a DJ and producer. About.com ranked the group's lead MC, Wise Intelligent, number five on its list of the 10 Most Underrated Rappers, calling him "one of the most creative MCs of our time."[2]
