Formatisi il 7 maggio 1997, gli Steps nel corso della loro carriera hanno pubblicato 4 album in studio, 4 compilation, 1 album dal vivo e 17 singoli.

Chiamati gli ABBA degli anni Novanta, tra il 1997 ed il 2001, anno del loro scioglimento in seguito all'abbandono di due membri, Claire Richards e Ian "H" Watkins, gli Steps hanno raggiunto due volte la vetta della classifica dei singoli più venduti in Regno Unito, due volte quella degli album, mentre 14 loro singoli sono entrati nella top 5, oltre ad avere avuto vari successi in tutta Europa. Hanno venduto più di 20 milioni di dischi e 2 milioni di biglietti per i loro concerti.

Il gruppo si è riformato nel 2011 in occasione dell'uscita di una raccolta dei loro successi e per registrare un documentario in 4 parti intitolato Steps: the Reunion per il canale Sky Living, trasmesso a partire dal 28 settembre 2011.

Steps are a British dance-pop group consisting of Lee Latchford-Evans, Claire Richards, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Ian "H" Watkins. Steps were formed in May 1997 and achieved a series of charting singles between 1997 and 2001 including two number-one singles in the UK (one a double A-side), two number-one albums in the UK, 14 consecutive top 5 singles in the UK and a string of hits throughout Europe. The group has sold over 22 million records worldwide in addition to acquiring a BRIT Award nomination in 1999 for Best Newcomer while supporting Britney Spears on tour the same year. When Richards and Watkins departed to form a recording duo, the group disbanded on 26 December 2001. Their penultimate single reached number five in the UK charts while their final album of greatest hits, Gold (2001), was the group's second number-one album in the UK.

El nombre de “Steps” se origina en una estrategia de marketing: todos y cada uno de sus singles poseían una simple coreografía que ellos interpretaban en sus vídeos musicales y ,a su vez, los pasos de baile a seguir venían incluidos en la edición física de cada uno de sus singles.
