Nueve años menor que Ed, Dean no tocó la guitarra hasta los 19 años, y nunca había tocado en una banda antes de unirse a Collective Soul en 1993.

He is best known for being the rhythm guitarist of the band Collective Soul, an alternative rock band fronted by his brother Ed.[1] He is also part of the rock duo Magnets & Ghosts alongside Ryan Potesta.[2][3]
