Trayectoria


Se educó en la Queen Margaret's School de York y en el Royal College of Music. Durante cinco años fue miembro de los BBC Singers donde cantó jazz.[2][3] Al dejar el grupo comenzó a interesarse en ópera, debutando en 1994 en Der Rosenkavalier como Annina[4] Su consagración llegó como Serse (Xerxes) y como Giulio Cesare en el Festival de Glyndebourne[5][2] Debutó en el Covent Garden en el 2009, como Dido en Dido and Aeneas.[6] Ha cantado música contemporánea, de Mark-Anthony Turnage’s Twice Through the Heart con Oliver Knussen; Jonathan Harvey, John Tavener y otros,[7] which was subsequently released in a 2002 commercial recording.[8]

En septiembre del 2009, fue la solista de The Last Night of the Proms, cantando Mahler,[9] jazz[10] y Rule Britannia vestida como el Almirante Nelson[11][12]

Connolly junto a su marido e hija Lily (*2003[4]) vive en Gloucestershire, Cotswolds.[2][3]

En 2017 fue nombrada Dama del Imperio Británico.

Se retira temporalmente en 2019 debido a tratamiento por cáncer. Participa en manifestaciones contra el Brexit

Dame Sarah Patricia Connolly DBE (born 13 June 1963)[1] is an English mezzo-soprano. Although best known for her baroque and classical roles, Connolly has a wide-ranging repertoire which has included works by Wagner as well as various 20th-century composers. She was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2010 New Year Honours[2] and a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) in the 2017 Birthday Honours for services to music.[3]
