Lou Donaldson (né à Badin en Caroline du Nord le 1^er novembre 1926) est un saxophoniste alto américain de jazz.

Biographie

Il a notamment accompagné Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers lors du concert culte donné au Birdland en 1954 pour le label Blue Note. À partir des années 1960, il revient à un jazz plus classique, jouant le plus souvent avec des organistes (John Patton, Charles Earland, Leon Spencer, Lonnie Smith entre autres, il a aussi enregistré avec Jimmy Smith).

Louis Andrew Donaldson[1] (* 1. November 1926 in Badin, North Carolina) ist ein US-amerikanischer Jazz-Altsaxophonist, Bandleader und Komponist. In seiner über 60-jährigen Karriere spielte er u. a. mit Milt Jackson, Thelonious Monk, Art Blakey, Jimmy Smith und George Benson. Musiker wie Horace Silver, Clifford Brown, Ray Barretto, Grant Green, Big John Patton, Lonnie Smith, Blue Mitchell und Donald Byrd machten ihre ersten Plattenaufnahmen mit Donaldson.
