Peters was previously signed to Atlantic Records, with which she released three EP's. She also curated the season two soundtrack to the British comedy series Trying.
Peters was born and grew up in Steyning, West Sussex, England. She has a twin sister, Ellen.[2] At around age eight, she performed in a choir. She also tried to play the flute but was not successful.[3] She wrote her first song at age nine[4] and began writing songs regularly at the age of 12, after borrowing her friend's guitar for a school project.[5] She attended Steyning Grammar School, where she won in a talent show in March 2015. At age 15, she busked on the streets of Brighton and began uploading original songs to YouTube.[6]
Peters started her music career on The Ayala Show in 2016. Aged 15, she performed several self-written songs on the show.[7] A year later, Peters independently released her first two songs: "Place We Were Made" and "Birthday".[8] The songs gained attention in indie-pop circles and "Place We Were Made" was named BBC Introducing's song of the week early 2018.[4] Following this attention, Peters signed with Atlantic Records UK.[8] Under their banner, she released various singles and two EPs, Dressed Too Nice for a Jacket and It's Your Bed Babe, It's Your Funeral.[9][10][11] Both "Feels Like This" (of Dressed Too Nice for a Jacket) and "Favourite Ex" (released as a single) appeared on Love Island in 2019.[12]
In 2020, Peters contributed the song "Smile" to the soundtrack album Birds of Prey: The Album, for the film Birds of Prey.[13] She was also announced as the opening act for Niall Horan's Nice to Meet Ya Tour on tourdates in Europe.[14] However, these concerts were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[2] Peters released work for another soundtrack in 2021, this time for the Apple TV+ original series Trying. She wrote and performed all songs, with a feature by fellow British recording artist James Bay on the song "Funeral".[15][16]
On the 15th of June 2021, Peters left Atlantic Records and signed with Ed Sheeran's Gingerbread Man Records.[17] Under this label, she released her debut albumYou Signed Up for This on 27 August 2021.[18] The album debuted at number 2 on the UK Albums Chart and was the top selling album in UK independent record stores for that week.[19] With the first two singles of the record, "John Hughes Movie" and "Psycho", Peters garnered her first notations on the British charts.[20]
Peters embarked on her first headlining tour in 2022, touring the United States.[21] Later that year, she joined Sheeran's +–=÷x Tour as opening act.[22] While touring she released singles "Cate's Brother", "Blonde" and "Not Another Rockstar".[21][23][24] She cited various (pop) rock bands as influences in her new music.[21] Peters has announced she will tour the United Kingdom in April 2023.[23]
Peters possesses a soprano voice.[25] She is a self described "massive fan of Taylor Swift". She has also expressed admiration for English-Irish girl group Girls Aloud and English artist Lily Allen.[5]
Peters operates an online book club through Instagram.[26]
