He was born in 1963 in Kut, a city on the Tigris River. He began studying the oud at the age of 12 in Baghdad, following in the footsteps of Jamil and Munir Bashir. He received his diploma from the Baghdad Academy of Music in 1987. He began to teach oud after three years at the academy, as well as continuing his own studies. Shamma has composed music for films, plays and television and created the Arabic Oud House.[1]

Among other recognitions, Shamma has been distinguished as UNESCO Artist for Peace[2] and by the International Red Crescent and Red Cross Societies as goodwill ambassador.[3]

• His first disc entitled "Eastern love story" from France in 1994.
• Arab World Institute issued another edition of the disc "Eastern love story". The production of several editions by the Arab World Institute in Paris entitled "Oud from Baghdad", in 1994.
• His second disc entitled "sunshine" from Italy byFoundation, in 1996.
• His disc "before I get crucified", the name of the disc is based on experiencing the last moments of the life of Hallaj. It was reprinted in Tunisia in 1997.
• A set of cassettes in Tunisia to fit with the ease of distribution in the Arab world: - "The night of Baghdad" and "Eastern Love story" and "declaring my love silently" and "for the Children of Iraq" and "From the Heart" in 1997.
• His disc, "the departure of the Moon" from Britain produced by Incognito for a concert in Boston in 1999.
• Video tape entitled "Oud Naseer Shamma," issued by the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi in 2000.
• Re-issuance of the tape "the departure of the Moon" by issuing a special with the great poet Adonis in 2000.
• Cassette tape, "the siege of Baghdad," from Cairo, 2000.
• His disc "Makamat Ziriab min Al forat ila Al Wadi AlKaber" registered in Spain and published from Australia in 2003.
• CD "Ahlam Ateqa" from Algeria in 2004.
• His disc "If found" dedicated to the spirit of Edward Said and recorded in Egypt in cooperation with Diwan in 2004.
• His fourth disc "crescent" with the band "eyes" printed in Madrid in 2005.
• "Land of Black" Egypt in cooperation with Diwan in 2006.
• His disc "silk" from Abu Dhabi in cooperation with Abu Dhabi Festival in 2009.
• His disc "Travelling Souls" Pneuma Foundation of Spain 2011.
