Saunders Lewis (John Saunders Lewis de son nom complet), né à Wallasey, Angleterre le 15 octobre 1893 et mort le 1^er septembre 1985, est un nationaliste gallois et l'un des fondateurs du Plaid Cymru Genedlaethol (Parti national du Pays de Galles), connu plus tard sous le nom Plaid Cymru. Il est un poète, dramaturge, historien, critique littéraire et politique. Lewis est généralement reconnu comme l'un des personnages les plus importants de la littérature du XX^e siècle en langue galloise. Lewis était nommé pour le prix Nobel de littérature de 1970^{[réf. nécessaire]}.

Engagement politique

Saunders Lewis participe en 1925 à la fondation du Plaid Cymru, qu'il dirige jusqu'en 1939[1].

Saunders Lewis (born John Saunders Lewis) (15 October 1893 – 1 September 1985) was a Welsh political activist, poet, dramatist, historian and literary critic. He was a prominent Welsh nationalist and one of the founders of Plaid Genedlaethol Cymru (the National Party of Wales), later known as Plaid Cymru. Lewis is usually acknowledged as one of the most prominent figures of 20th century Welsh-language literature. In 1970, Lewis was nominated for a Nobel Prize in Literature. Lewis was voted the tenth greatest Welsh hero in the '100 Welsh Heroes' poll, released on St. David's Day 2004.[1]
