Biografia

Nato a Manchester da genitori entrambi scozzesi, ha vissuto proprio in Scozia, a Dunfermline fin da piccolo.

Nel 1977, appena diciottenne, ha fondato il gruppo The Skids. Il più grande successo di questa band è rappresentato dal brano Into the Valley (1980). La cover di The Saints Are Coming è stata interpretata da U2 e Green Day negli anni 2000.

Contestualmente alla fine dell'esperienza Skids, nei primissimi anni '80 Adamson fonda il gruppo Big Country insieme a Bruce Watson. Il gruppo ha esordito nel 1983 con l'album The Crossing, che ha riscosso un ottimo successo anche negli Stati Uniti. La band con Adamson è rimasta in attività fino al 2000.

Nel 1996 si trasferisce a Nashville. Nel 2001 esce un album inciso con un gruppo alternative country chiamato The Raphaels.

Nel 2001 sì è suicidato mentre si trovava alle Hawaii.[1][2]

William Stuart Adamson (11 April 1958 – 16 December 2001) was a Scottish rock guitarist and singer. Adamson began his career in the late 1970s as a founding member and performer with the punk rock band Skids. After leaving Skids in 1981, he formed Big Country and was the band's lead singer and guitarist. The group's commercial heyday was in the 1980s. In the 1990s, he was a member of the alternative country band The Raphaels. In the late 1970s the British music journalist John Peel referred to his musical virtuosity as a guitarist as "a new Jimi Hendrix".[1]
