Rudolf Flotzinger (born 22 September 1939) is an Austrian musicologist.[1]


Career


Born in Vorchdorf (Austria), Flotzinger graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Kremsmünster [de]. From 1951 to 1958 he studied musicology at the University of Vienna with Erich Schenk and Walter Graf.[2] In 1965 he received his doctorate and in 1969 his habilitation in Vienna on topics of early music. From 1971 to 1999 he was chairman of the institute for musicology of the University of Graz and from 1999 to 2006 chairman of the board of the Kommission für Musikforschung [de] at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Flotzinger is co-editor of the three-volume Musikgeschichte Österreichs[3] and editor of the five-volume Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon and member of the Academia Europaea in London as well as corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Zagreb and Ljubljana.

He also published a study titled Perotinus Musicus (2000).[4][5]
