Biography

Raised between the United States and Zimbabwe, Africa, Calder moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to work as a dancer for Prince in 1994. Shortly after being cast in the Prince and NPG "Get Wild" video, she suffered a debilitating back injury, so instead studied studio engineering with NPG keyboardist Morris Hayes [1] and acquired an office internship with Twin/Tone Records.

Circa 2002, Calder adopted the moniker Lolly Pop and formed Electro-Kitsch act TELEPHONE!. In 2006, Pop emerged as a solo artist produced by Fink, Moir as well as Autobahn. The following year, Pop was featured on RockAmerica,[2] the soundtrack of the film Loveless in Los Angeles,[3] appeared at Winter Music Conference in Miami, and in the Paul Moering short film Climbing Trees.[4]

Separately, Calder was recruited as the female vocalist for the Ricardo Autobahn project POP INC. She also contributed vocals to and/or produced American acts A*O*A and glean (with Rick McCollum of The Afghan Whigs); British outfits The Cuban Boys and The Rude Awakening; Ireland's Aidan Casserly as well as Norway's Frode Holm. With Phil Solem of The Rembrandts, she co-wrote the theme song for the Launch TV comedy Graham Crackers. In 2019, she had a cameo appearance in Jellybean Johnson's Put Some Jelly On It[5] and formed dark wave duo The Red Hour with ENDIF. Calder most recently collaborated with BBC award-winning director Martin Gooch for the song and video "Everybody Loves Dancing",[6] runs the Philadelphia-based electronic imprint Manual Control Records[7] and is working on her tenth release.

Charitable efforts

During the 2020 COVID pandemic, Calder donated her royalties to help VA nurses risking their lives. In 2017, A*O*A donated sales profits to the NODAPL Legal Fund and continue to provide a $1 royalty to RAICES for each maxi-single sold.
