Major Lance (né le 4 avril 1939[1]^,[2], 1941[3]^,[4]^,[5] ou 1942[6]^,[7] – 3 septembre 1994[8]^,[5]) est un chanteur américain de rhythm and blues et de musique soul. Après de nombreux succès dans les années 1960 aux États-Unis, souvent en collaboration avec Curtis Mayfield, par exemple The Monkey Time (en) et Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um (en), il devient une figure importante en Grande-Bretagne dans les années 1970 parmi les fans de Northern soul. Même s'il a arrêté d'enregistrer en 1982, Major Lance a continué de se produire en concert jusqu'à sa mort en 1994. Sa fille, Keisha Lance Bottoms, est élue maire d'Atlanta en 2018.

Major Lance (April 4, 1939,[3][1] 1941[4][5] or 1942[6][7] – September 3, 1994)[2] was an American R&B singer. After a number of US hits in the 1960s, including "The Monkey Time" and "Um, Um, Um, Um, Um, Um", he became an iconic figure in Britain in the 1970s among followers of Northern Soul. Although he stopped making records in 1982, Major Lance continued to perform at concerts and on tours until his death in 1994. His daughter, Keisha Lance Bottoms, was the mayor of Atlanta.
