Biografia


Figlia del rapper Benzino, proprietario della nota rivista hip hop The Source, Brittany Collins è nata a Boston ed è cresciuta ad Hackensack.[2] Ha iniziato a scrivere canzoni durante l'adolescenza e all'età di 16 anni ha abbandonato gli studi per tentare la carriera musicale.[3]

Leray ha origini tedesche, capoverdiane, afroamericane e portoricane.


Carriera


Nel 2017 ha pubblicato su SoundCloud e YouTube il suo primo brano, G.A.N., che ha ricevuto popolarità a livello locale. Ad esso hanno fatto seguito nel 2018 il singolo Huddy e il mixtape di debutto Everythingcoz.[1] Nel dicembre 2018 ha collaborato con Ski Mask the Slump God e Jacquees nel brano Save the Day, inciso per la colonna sonora del film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.[4] Nel gennaio 2019 ha firmato un contratto con la Republic Records e il 18 dello stesso mese ha pubblicato il secondo mixtape EC2.[5] Nello stesso anno ha accompagnato Trippie Redd nel suo Life's a Trip Tour;[6] è anche apparsa come artista ospite nel brano di Redd Everything BoZ, inserito nell'album !.[7]

Ad aprile 2020 pubblica Better Days, una collaborazione con Fetty Wap,[8] mentre il 14 agosto dello stesso anno ha messo in commercio l'EP Now or Never, che riceve una buona accoglienza da parte della critica.[9] Il 22 gennaio 2021 pubblica il singolo No More Parties, che diventa rapidamente virale su TikTok: grazie ad un successivo remix in collaborazione con Lil Durk il brano porta per la prima volta Leray nella Billboard Hot 100, raggiungendo il 26º posto.[10][11] Due mesi dopo pubblica Big Purr (Prrdd), che vede la partecipazione di Pooh Shiesty: anch'esso riceve grande seguito su TikTok e finisce per debuttare alla numero 69 nella Hot 100 statunitense.[12][13] Ad aprile fa la sua prima apparizione in televisione, nel programma di Jimmy Fallon The Tonight Show, esibendosi con No More Parties.[14] A giugno è stata inclusa nella XXL Freshman Class, la lista annuale curata dalla rivista XXL I cui vengono inclusi i 10 migliori rapper emergenti.[15]

Nel 2022 annuncia il primo album in studio intitolato Trendsetter, pubblicato l'8 aprile 2022.[16] A marzo pubblica Blick Blick, uno dei singoli estratti dall'album, in collaborazione con Nicki Minaj.

Coi Leray Collins[lower-alpha 1] (born May 11, 1997) is an American rapper and singer. She began posting music to SoundCloud and released her single "Huddy", along with her debut mixtape Everythingcoz in 2018. After signing a record deal with 1801 Records and Republic Records, Leray released her second mixtape, EC2 (2019), and her debut extended play, Now or Never (2020). In 2021, the Lil Durk-assisted remix of her single, "No More Parties", reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100, and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2022, Leray released her debut studio album Trendsetter, which spawned her collaborative single with Nicki Minaj, "Blick Blick", which also reached the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.
