Gnash cominciò ad esibirsi all'età di 13 anni. Prima che scrivesse la sua propria musica fece il DJ per una scuola superiore durante le feste ed i balli scolastici. Cominciò a produrre cover di canzoni dopo il college. Gnash ha discendenze inglesi e norvegesi.
Gnash citò Death Cab For Cutie, The Postal Service, e Jack Johnson nella sua influenza musicale.

Garrett Charles Nash[1] (born June 16, 1993), formerly known by his stage name Gnash (stylized as gnash; pronounced "nash"),[2] is an American musician, rapper, singer, songwriter, DJ and record producer. He released his debut extended play (EP), U, in March 2015 on SoundCloud and followed up with the Me EP in December 2015.
