Considerato una "icona del pop coreano",[4][5] dal suo debutto nel 1978[4] ha pubblicato sedici album in studio, tra cui When Love Passes By nel 1987 che, con 2,85 milioni di copie, divenne il disco più venduto nel Paese in quel periodo.[6] È noto anche per aver condotto il programma radiofonico Starry Night su MBC FM dal 1985 al 1996.[7]
