Biografia

Nata in Arkansas, Shara Worden si sposta con la famiglia prima in Oklahoma e poi in Michigan. Dopo gli studi (avvenuti presso l'Università del Nord Texas) si trasferisce a Mosca (Russia) dove studia la lingua russa e scrive le canzoni che pubblica nell'EP Session I. Nel 1999 si trasferisce a New York ed inizia a suonare. Nel 2001 pubblica due album in collaborazione col chitarrista Shane Yarbrough sotto il nome AwRY: si tratta di The Orange Album[1] e di Quiet B Sides. Nel periodo 2002-2003 scrive per la sonorizzazione del libro di Adam Rapp Trueblinka[2]. Nel 2004 diventa turnista di Sufjan Stevens (con cui collabora negli album Illinoise e The Age of Adz[3]), nonché membro degli Illinoismakers.

Nel 2006 dà vita al progetto My Brightest Diamond producendo l'album Bring Me the Workhorse, a cui segue Tear It Down, disco di remix del precedente. Nel 2007 suona dal vivo con The Decemberists, con cui lavora anche nel disco The Hazards of Love con il soprannome di "The Queen".[4] Nel giugno 2008 pubblica A Thousand Shark's Teeth, raccolta di canzoni suonate con un quartetto d'archi. Contribuisce con una cover di Lucky ad un album-tributo ai Radiohead. Inoltre partecipa al progetto Dark Was the Night e all'album Here Lies Love di David Byrne e Fatboy Slim (2010).

Nell'ottobre 2011 pubblica l'album All Things Will Unwind. Il 2014 è l'anno di This is My Hand[5]

Shara Nova (previously Worden) is the lead singer and songwriter for My Brightest Diamond. As a composer she is most recognized for her choral compositions and the baroque chamber opera "You Us We All". New music composers Sarah Kirkland Snider, David Lang, Steve Mackey and Bryce Dessner have composed pieces for Nova's voice. She has recorded as a guest vocalist with David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, The Decemberists, Sufjan Stevens, Jedi Mind Tricks, The Blind Boys of Alabama and Stateless as well as extensive collaborations with visual artists Matthew Ritchie and Matthew Barney. She was formerly the frontwoman of AwRY. On March 3, 2016, Shara legally changed her last name from Worden to Nova after divorcing her ex-husband, to whom she had been married most of her adult life.[1][2]
