Cult ist das dritte Studioalbum der finnischen Cello-Rockband Apocalyptica. Cult erschien 2000 beim Musiklabel Island Records und wird gelegentlich dem Genre Metal zugerechnet. Sie selbst bevorzugen den Titel Cello Rock.

Musikstil

Zum ersten Mal verwenden Apocalyptica auf diesem Album auch Perkussion. Die Celli ertönen hier auch zum ersten Mal verzerrt.

Insgesamt ist das Album eine Gratwanderung zwischen Metal und Klassik. Die Melodien zeigen gewisse Ähnlichkeiten zu den Liedern Sepulturas und Metallicas, z. B. erinnert die Melodie von Path an Master of Puppets. Die Songs Fight Fire with Fire und Until It Sleeps wurden direkt von Metallica übernommen. Im Gegensatz zu den Vorgängeralben sind nur noch drei Coverversionen enthalten: die beiden erwähnten Metallica-Lieder und Hall of the Mountain King von Edvard Grieg.

Cult Special Edition

Im Jahr 2001 gab Island Records eine Doppel-CD heraus. Auf der CD 2 befinden sich 3 Live-Mitschnitte (Harmageddon, Nothing Else Matters und Inquisition Symphony) von einem Konzert aus München, Oktober 2000. Des Weiteren sind die Lieder Path vol. 2 mit Sandra Nasić (Guano Apes) und Hope vol. 2 mit Matthias Sayer (Farmer Boys) neu aufgenommen.

Charterfolge

Cult erreicht in der 23. Kalenderwoche 2000 Chartplatz 24 in Deutschland.

Cult is the title of the third full-length LP by the band Apocalyptica released in 2000 with a special-edition released in 2001 containing an extra disc, mixed and mastered at Finnvox. Apocalyptica's first two albums consisted mostly of cover versions; Cult was their first album to feature mainly original composition, along with using distortion effects much more boldly and frequently, which gave the album a more orchestral sound, and also the album experimented with vocals and other instrumentation. There are some versions of the first release with "Path Vol. 2" as the first track and "Path" as the fourteenth. This is the last Apocalyptica album to feature Max Lilja on cello. The song "Hope Vol.2" has a music video which features scenes from the film Vidocq. Cult, along with Inquisition Symphony and Live, were all released together in the Limited Edition Collectors Box Set.[1]

На музыку «Path» и «Hope» были положены стихи в исполнении Сандры Hасич (Guano Apes) и Matthias Sayer (Farmer Boys  (англ.) (рус.) и попали в специальное издание под названиями «Path Vol.2» и «Hope Vol.2» соответственно. Это был последний альбом группы, в записи которого участвовал Макс Лилья.
