Il disco


I musicisti presenti all'incisione sono gli stessi del precedente album solo del 1981 e il più prestigioso di essi è certamente Gary Moore. La chitarra graffiante di Moore sembra godere di meno spazio che nel precedente, ma il disco è comunque ben suonato ed arrangiato. Alcuni dei brani più heavy, compreso quello che dà il titolo al disco, sono reminiscenze del primo album, ma è nelle ballate che il prodotto dà il meglio di sé. D'altronde nei lavori con Keith Emerson e Carl Palmer erano le composizioni di Lake quelle che in genere trainavano i dischi. In questo caso Lake ha scritto buone canzoni e ben interpretate come d'altra parte la sua voce gli permette. Un disco forse da ascoltare più di una volta per poterlo apprezzare in pieno.

Manoeuvres is the second and final solo studio album by English musician Greg Lake with his 1981 to 1983 lineup (with guitarist Gary Moore, longtime friend bassist Tris Margetts, drummer Ted McKenna (The Sensational Alex Harvey Band; Rory Gallagher), and renowned session keyboardist Tommy Eyre),[2] released in July 1983 by Chrysalis Records. (His live album with this line-up of his solo band, King Biscuit Flower Hour Presents Greg Lake in Concert, recorded in 1981 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London, was released in 1995 as his third and last album with this line-up of his Greg Lake Band.) Like his debut solo album, Greg Lake (1981), Manoeuvres was created in close collaboration with Northern Irish guitarist and singer-songwriter Gary Moore. It includes a song "Haunted" written with friend and bassist Tris Margetts and rock cartoonist-artist Tony Benyon.[3]
