Llevó una vida ascética en una cueva del valle Garni, cerca de la actual ciudad de Iereván (capital de Armenia). Allí produjo poemas eclesiásticos y también cantos litúrgicos. De todos ellos, el único que sobrevivió fue Srt'uhi Mariam (‘santa María’), un texto acróstico de nueve versos.

Se cree que muchos de sus himnos estaban dedicados a la Virgen María. Algunos de ellos se supone que ayudaron a darle forma al género en los siguientes siglos.

También se sabe que Sahak Duxt enseñaba melodías sagradas a melómanos laicos y estudiantes clérigos. Debía hacerlo detrás de una cortina, para que no vieran su cuerpo, tal como requerían las costumbres de la época.

Su hermano fue el teórico musical Step'annos Siwnec'i.

Sahakdukht[n 1] (Armenian: Սահակադուխտ, lit. 'daughter of Sahak'; fl. early 8th century) was an Armenian hymnographer, poet and pedagogue who lived during the early 8th century.[2] She is the first known woman of Armenian literature and music. Along with her slightly later contemporary Khosrovidukht, she is among the earliest woman composers in history. Sahakdukht and her brother Stepanos Siunetsi [hy], who became a noted composer and music theorist, were educated in Dvin. She then spent her life as an ascetic, living in a cave (a grotto) of the Garni valley where she wrote and taught music. Though she is said to have written much Christian music, particularly for the Virgin Mary, only a single šarakan survives, the acrostic "Srbuhi Mariam" ("Saint Mary"). The work shows considerable stylistic connections to contemporaneous Byzantine theotokions and kanons. Though her piece did not join the general šarakan liturgy, Sahakdukht's oeuvre as a whole is thought to have exerted considerable influence on subsequent šarakans; they introduced certain phrases into popular use and according to ethnomusicologist Şahan Arzruni they "helped to shape the development of the genre during subsequent centuries".[5]

Саакдухт (Саакдухт Сюнеци) (точные даты рождения и смерти неизвестны) — армянская поэтесса VIII века[1]. Первая известная истории женщина-поэт в армянской литературе[1]. Дочь высокопоставленного церковнослужителя Двинского католикосата Саака, сестра Степаноса Сюнеци[1]. Согласно Степаносу Орбеляну, Саакдухт вела отшельническую жизнь вблизи Гарни, где и скончалась. Саакдухт занималась поэзией и музыкой, имела учеников, которым преподавала, сидя за занавесом. Степанос Орбелян упоминает одно из её стихотворений (акростих), посвященный Богоматери. Текст произведения был обнаружен и издан епископом, филологом Н. Цовакан. Первые буквы стихотворения образуют имя его автора — Саакдухт. Её сочинения оказали влияние на творчество авторов последующих веков.
